DTF-style Egg Fried Rice with Beef

So, if you guys didn’t already know… my son is what we call a “rice bucket” — 饭桶 🤭 which basically means he loves rice.

But here’s the thing — he’s not just any rice lover. He is very, and I must say, extremely picky with his rice.

Having spent his formative years in China, he grew up eating short grain rice from a very young age. Thai jasmine rice? Actually quite uncommon where we were. The rice he’s used to is from Northern China — 东北 — where the climate is much colder, and rice is typically harvested just once a year. Because of that, all the essence and goodness are concentrated into that single harvest… and honestly, can you imagine how good that rice is? (You really need to try it.)

Anyway, back to my little rice bucket — whenever we go out for a meal, he’s always scanning the menu for anything rice-related. And his all-time favourite? Garlic fried rice.

But recently, we went to Din Tai Fung and ordered their egg fried rice… and he went, “WOW… imagine combining both together!”

So of course, this was his request — and today, I’m making his wish come true with this DTF-style Egg Fried Rice with Beef 🤍🍚

Here’s how I do it!

Ingredients

100g beef slices (marinated with soy sauce, dark soy sauce, corn starch, sesame oil)
4–5 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg, beaten
1 bowl of rice (preferably overnight)
Salt, to taste

Method

1. Marinate the Beef
• In a bowl, marinate the beef slices with 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 tsp dark soy sauce, 1/2 tbsp corn starch, and 1 tsp sesame oil.

• Set aside.

2. Prepare the Rice
• Beat the egg in a bowl, then add the rice and mix well, ensuring each grain is evenly coated.

3. Cook the Beef
• Heat oil in a wok over high heat. Add the beef slices and stir-fry until just cooked.

• Remove, strain off excess oil, and set aside.

4. Sauté the Garlic
• Using the same wok and oil, add the minced garlic.

• Sauté until fragrant and lightly golden.

5. Fry the Rice
• Add the egg-coated rice into the wok.

• Stir-fry until the egg is fully cooked and the rice is slightly crispy.

6. Combine Everything
• Return the beef to the wok and toss everything together.

• Season with salt to taste.

7. Serve
• Serve warm and enjoy your garlicky, comforting beef fried rice.
