Smash Burger

This is the smash burger recipe my family keeps asking me to make again and again 🍔✨

Crispy, caramelised edges, juicy centre, melted cheese, rich burger sauce, and buttery toasted brioche buns — every layer matters, but the real magic is in the smash. That moment the patty hits the hot pan and sizzles into pure flavour.

Simple ingredients, but done right… this is better than any burger we’ve had out 😳

Here’s how I do it!

Ingredients

Brioche burger buns, toasted

Beef patty (recipe below)

Burger sauce (recipe below)

Cheese slices

Caramelised onions

Sunny side up

Butterhead lettuce or arugula

Beef Patty Recipe

300g Minced Beef

2-3 tbsp Bread Crumbs

1 egg

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Black pepper

Burger Sauce

50g Mayonnaise

25g Ketchup

1 tbsp White Vinegar

Method

1. Marinate the meat

• Combine minced beef, breadcrumbs, 1 egg, salt, and pepper.

• Mix gently until just combined, without overworking the meat.

2. Shape the patties

• Form into 100g patties for a juicier burger or 50g patties for a double stack.

• Chill until ready to cook.

3. Prepare the toppings

• Fry sliced onions over low heat until fully caramelised.

• Cook sunny side up eggs until the yolk remains soft and runny.

4. Spin the salad

• Wash and spin-dry the lettuce until crisp.

• Set aside.

5. Cook the patties

• Cook the beef patties on a hot pan, then smash them down to create a crispy crust.

• Once cooked, set aside.

• They will be reheated briefly in the oven when melting the cheese.

6. Make the burger sauce

• Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, and a splash of vinegar until smooth and well combined.

• Adjust to taste until creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet.

7. Toast the brioche buns

• Slice the brioche buns in half and toast the cut sides until golden and lightly crisp.

8. Assemble the burger

• Spread burger sauce on both bun halves.
• Add the patty and cheese (or 2?), then return to the oven briefly to melt the cheese.

• Top with sunny side up egg, caramelised onions, and lettuce.

9. Serve warm

Serve immediately while hot and freshly assembled.
