Choy sum might just be one of the simplest vegetables to cook, but when done right, it’s full of flavour and so satisfying 🥬✨
This stir-fried version with garlic, lard (my little secret for depth 😏), oyster sauce, and a splash of Maggi seasoning comes together in minutes — but tastes like something you’d order at a good zi char stall.
And the best part? I can finally add another vegetable to A Singaporean Son’s list of veggies he’ll eat 💚
Here’s how I do it!
Ingredients | Shop my recipe on RedMart!
1 packet choy sum, cut and washed
2 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp lard oil (optional) or neutral cooking oil
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp Maggi seasoning sauce
Method
1. Prepare the Choy Sum
• Cut the choy sum into bite-sized pieces.
• Wash thoroughly and spin dry to remove excess water.
2. Heat the Wok
• Heat a wok over high heat until hot.
• Add lard (or neutral cooking oil).
3. Sauté the Garlic
• Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
4. Stir-Fry the Vegetables
• Add the choy sum and stir-fry quickly over high heat.
5. Add the Sauces
• Add oyster sauce and Maggi seasoning sauce.
• Toss and mix well.
6. Plate and Serve
• Cook until the vegetables are just tender, then plate immediately and serve hot.
