If you didn’t already know, our family actually lived in Shanghai for three years — during the pandemic, no less. While it was an unexpected season, it also turned out to be such a special one for us. We were incredibly blessed to still be able to travel within China during that time, and those three years became filled with unforgettable trips, hidden gems, and amazing food discoveries across different cities.
Over those years, we visited so many places, each with its own charm. But of course, there’s no better place to start than the city we once called home — Shanghai.
This time, I’m sharing my recent 8D7N Shanghai itinerary, packed with my MUST-GO and MUST-EAT spots. These are the places we personally love, return to, and recommend without hesitation. If you’re planning a trip to Shanghai, this is one list you won’t want to miss.
8D7N ITINERARY
Day 1 — Arrival
Arrive Pudong International Airport
Transfer to hotel
Day 2 — 永康, 淮海中路
Breakfast and Coffee at 永康路 (Yong Kang Lu)
— 煎饼小屋
— 福建馄饨王
Lunch at 很久以前羊肉串(陕西南路店)
— Chinese BBQ skewers chain; Go earlier to avoid queues;
— Opens 11.30am
Ice cream at 野人先生
— Opens 12pm
Shopping along 淮海中路
— Uniqlo, Muji, Songmont (山下有松), Nudake, Tamburins etc
Head to 上海自然博物馆
Day 3 — 愚园路, 豫园
Breakfast and Coffee at M3 Coffee (愚园路旗舰店)
— Opens 9am
Walk down 愚园路 towards 三顿半空间
— Opens 10am
Lunch at 雲和面馆(华山路店)
— Opens 11am
— Must have: Clams noodle, Crab Meat+Crab Roe Noodles
Head to 豫园
Walk around 豫园老街
Dinner at 南翔馒头店 (豫园店)
— Opens 7.30am to 8.30pm
Day 4 — Legoland
Breakfast and Coffee at hotel
Spend the day at Legoland Shanghai Resort
— 1.5 hours drive from hotel
Dinner at Korean Town 韩国街 (虹泉路)
— 1 hour drive from Legoland
Day 5 — Former French Concession
Breakfast and Coffee at 永康路
Shopping along 湖南路 heading towards lunch
Lunch at 老吉士酒家
— Old school Shanghainese food
— Important: Make a reservation as the queue is very long
Walk down 武康路 towards 安福路
— 19 mins walk
Shopping at 安福路
— Harmay, Brandy Melville, 24ANS etc
Day 6 — 朱家角 Ancient Water Town
Breakfast and Coffee at hotel
Head to 朱家角古镇
— 1 hour drive from hotel
Explore old alleys and eating street food along the way
Lunch at 洞天食府
— Old school Shanghainese food
Head back to Shanghai city
Shopping at Nanjing East Road Walking Street
— Anta, Li Ning, Nike, Adidas
Dinner at 四季民福
— Peking duck; Go earlier to avoid queues
Day 7 — The Bund & Pudong (陆家嘴)
Coffee at Arabica %
Walkabout at The Bund 外滩Citywalk
Cross over to Pudong
Lunch at 桂满陇 at 正大广场
— Zhejiang cuisine
Walk around towards Pudong Pearl Tower
Day 8 — Departure
Breakfast and Coffee at 永康路
