Ingredients (Makes about 50-60 wantons)
250g minced pork (or any minced meat!)
8 pcs rehydrated mushrooms, minced
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp sugar
¼ tsp white pepper
1 pack square wanton wrappers
Water (for sealing)
Neutral oil, for deep frying
Method
1. Make the Filling
• In a mixing bowl, combine the minced meat, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper.
• Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.
2. Wrap the Wantons
• Place a wanton wrapper on a clean surface, with one corner pointing up (like a diamond shape).
• Add 1 tsp of filling to the centre.
• Brush the edges with water.
• Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing out any air and sealing the edges well.
3. Heat the Oil
• In a deep pan or wok, heat enough vegetable oil to deep fry (about 5 cm deep) over medium heat.
• Test the oil by dipping a corner of a wanton in—it should sizzle immediately.
4. Fry the Wantons
• Carefully drop in a few wantons at a time—don’t overcrowd the pan.
• Fry for 3–4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.
• Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
5. Serve
• Serve hot with sweet chilli sauce or your favourite dipping sauce.
• Enjoy while they’re crispy and fresh!
Deep-fried wantons are simple to prepare and always a crowd-pleaser. With a crunchy exterior and juicy centre, they make the perfect appetizer or snack any day of the week.
